Sponsor Duties and Procedures

 

1. Bring the Prospective Member you are Sponsoring to a meeting

2. Submit Prospective Member’s work to the Board at the following meeting

3. If Board approved, you will be given an application packet containing the application and a 3-ring folder to give to your Prospective Member

4. Prospective Member is to complete and put credentials in to the supplied folder, attaching all information.  Please assist if necessary.

5. Sponsor does not submit folder to Membership Chair until checking all requirements as follows in this sample for an art application:

   A.  Proof of juried shows, three (3) shows

   B.  Photo samples of work (3)

   C.  Proof of sales, three (3)

   D.  Sponsor and Endorser signatures

   E.  Pre-stamped envelope for mailing of Prospective Member’s folder

   F.  Check to National and Check to Sarasota Branch in appropriate amounts (check for current fees)

 6.   The Board then votes on the Prospective Member.  If approved by the Board, the Membership Chair will submit the application packet to National

 Similar procedure also applies to Music and Letters with some variations.  Please consult the Membership Chairperson who will provide you with complete instructions at the appropriate time.

 It is strongly suggested that all data be placed in three ring plastic sleeves and inserted in the mandatory folder provided.  Three holes should be punched in documents and securely attached.

 When the Prospective Member is accepted as a new member, Sponsor is to support this member by bringing her to meetings, being seated with, etc. 

 Our Membership Chair will oversee that all Sponsor responsibilities are being fulfilled

 

Membership Criteria

ART:  Applicant must submit three (3) samples (slides or photos) of work produced and shown in at least three jury selected exhibitions within the past five years.  Proof of sales is also required.

LETTERS:  At least three (3) examples or Xeroxed copies of published work or one book length sample. Include proof of sales within the past five years.   If the book is self-published, proof of professional quality of the writing must be submitted (such as reviews and endorsements by qualified literary or education related persons) along with proof of sales.

MUSIC:  Three (3) original, published or unpublished compositions and/or arrangements completed within the past five years.  Include proof of payment for at least one professionally published composition or arrangement. (an arrangement is an adaptation of a composition to a different form than was originally written).

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP:  May be acquired by women meeting all requirements for active membership except that proof of payment for work does not exist.  Associate members do not have voting privileges. 

PATRONS:  The Sarasota Branch of NLAPW invites a limited number (not more than one half the number of members) of women to serve as non-voting Patrons.  Patrons support the group and participate in all activities.

All applicants must show proof of three sales within the past five years.  Applicants must include a black and white head photo when application is submitted.

 Advantages of Membership

The League promotes and conducts literary, educational, and charitable activities in the fields of Letters, Art, and Music. It encourages the production of creative work in these areas and provides its members with literary, educational and inspirational material through The Pen Woman. It also maintains a mature woman's scholarship fund to aid and encourage professional development. In addition, it honors the accomplishments of its members through competitions and biennial awards.

Particularly noteworthy are opportunities for members of all ages and degrees of experience to gain enriching perspectives from the multi-faceted activities and achievements of their colleagues. Of constant benefit is the interaction of The League members with one another in a spirit of mutual support, camaraderie, and personal and collective advancement.
